Faring Well at Haven Market
published in Manor Ink Newspaper
November 2021 • By Osei Helper and Michelle Adams-Thomas
Located on Livingston Manor’s Main Street with a sign that is understated, Haven Market has a unique design and serves wonderfully fresh food. We went with friends and enjoyed not only the time we spent together but the delicious organic, vegan food.
The feel of the place is different form other restaurants. It has a nice “there’s no place like home” feeling. The inside space is small, with no seating but customers can take food outside. We quite enjoyed sitting outside without many other customers while talking. We could enjoy the feeling of being in a place just to see friends.
Michelle: While there, my friend Osei Helper, Manor Ink’s editor-in-chief and I enjoyed Haven Market’s Cheese Quesadillas, Tropical Smoothies, Iced Coffees, Fresca Wraps and Veggie Quesadillas. The Iced Coffee was perfect — I chose the hazelnut flavor and it had a rich texture. I added almond milk to it, making it light and not too sweet. I also appreciated having a choice of three different levels of sweetness.
The Veggie Quesadilla was my favorite. The outside was cooked just right and garlic added a strong flavor that combined well with the hummus inside. The Fresca Wrap was very soft and creamy and I liked how fresh tasting the vegetables were. The wrap was soft, while the hummus had a nice texture and completed it all together.
Haven Market is not only a restaurant. They also have a small shop where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables and a wide variety of nuts and honeys. I tried the grapes and they were pleasantly sweet. I also had one of their brands of chips that were made of natural ingredients including brown rice, kale, spinach, sesame seeds, grains and sea salt.
Osei: I have eaten at Haven Market many times. I’ve watched their menu develop and grow over the years and can say for sure that they make good food. There aren’t really any other vegan and organic places to eat in the Manor so it’s great that Haven Market is here. Their food is a little on the expensive side but you know you’re paying for quality ingredients. They have a decently expansive menu and patrons are usually allowed a few taste tests to get a feel for what they might enjoy.

ORGANIC CHOW AND MORE Haven Market not only offers diners excellent takeout selections but is also a market featuring locally grown fruits and vegetables.
My favorite item of theirs is the Nachos Supreme but they are currently not serving it due to difficulties getting the chips. For something that they do have on the menu, I would suggest the Tropical Smoothie and Cheese Quesadilla.
Haven Market Organic Market & Kitchen is located at 108 Main St. in Livingston Manor. The restaurant is open for takeout with orders being taken at havenforhumanity.org/fare-haven from noon to 3 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays.
